Adding Site-Wide Meta Tags to Your BoldTrail Website

Adding Site-Wide Meta Tags to Your BoldTrail Website

BoldTrail does not provide a dedicated “site-wide SEO” section. However, agents can add global meta tags using the Custom Header Code area of their website settings.

This article walks you through:

  • Where to add meta tags

  • What code to copy and paste

  • What you should customize

  • Important limitations to be aware of

What Are Meta Tags?

Meta tags help search engines and social platforms understand your website. Common uses include:

  • Defining a site-wide description

  • Controlling how your site appears when shared on social media

  • Setting basic indexing preferences for search engines

Where to Add Meta Tags in BoldTrail

  1. Log into BoldTrail CRM

  2. Navigate to Web & IDX

  3. Click Website Settings

  4. Scroll down the page and Locate the Custom Header Code field

Anything placed here is added to the <head> of every page on your website.

Copy & Paste: Approved Meta Tag Template

Agents may copy and paste the following template directly into the Custom Header Code box.

  1. <!-- Site-Wide Meta Tags -->
  2. <meta name="description" content="Your trusted real estate resource helping buyers and sellers navigate the local market with confidence.">
  3. <meta name="robots" content="index, follow">
  4. <!-- Open Graph (Social Sharing) -->
    <meta property="og:title" content="Your Name | Dalton Wade Real Estate">
<meta property="og:description" content="Professional real estate services for buyers and sellers in your local area.">
    <meta property="og:type" content="website">
    <meta property="og:url" content="https://yourdomain.com">

What You Should Edit

After pasting the template, update the following fields:

  • Meta Description

    • Write a short, clear summary of your services (150–160 characters is ideal)

  • OG Title

    • Replace with your name and brand

  • OG Description

    • Similar to your meta description, but written for people (not search engines)

  • OG URL

    • Replace with your actual website URL

Example:

  1. <meta property="og:title" content="Jane Smith | Dalton Wade Real Estate">
  2. <meta property="og:url" content="https://janesmith.daltonwade.com">

What This Applies To (and What It Doesn’t)

This does apply to:

  • Your homepage

  • Custom content pages

  • Static site pages

This does not always apply to:

  • IDX listing pages

  • Property search results

  • Some system-generated pages

BoldTrail automatically manages SEO for IDX-driven pages, and those settings cannot be overridden.

Important Things to Know Before Saving

  • BoldTrail may automatically generate or override some meta tags

  • Duplicate or conflicting meta tags can negatively affect SEO

  • There is no preview or validation for this field

  • Dalton Wade Support cannot troubleshoot custom code issues

If you’re unsure about wording or structure, keep it simple.

Meta Descriptions: Good vs. Bad Examples

Meta descriptions should be clear, specific, and written for people. They are not a place to cram keywords or marketing buzzwords.

Below are real examples showing what helps SEO and what hurts it.

❌ Bad Meta Description Examples

Example 1: Keyword Stuffing

  1. <meta name="description" content="Real estate agent Realtor homes for sale buy sell house listing MLS real estate agent Realtor Florida Florida Florida">

Why this is bad:

  • Repetitive keywords

  • Unnatural phrasing

  • Likely ignored or rewritten by Google

Example 2: Too Vague

  1. <meta name="description" content="Welcome to my website.">

Why this is bad:

  • No location

  • No services

  • No reason to click

Example 3: Too Long

  1. <meta name="description" content="I am a dedicated and passionate real estate professional with years of experience helping clients achieve their dreams while providing outstanding customer service across multiple markets and property types.">

Why this is bad:

  • Gets cut off in search results

  • Buries the important information

  • Reads like a bio, not a summary

Example 4: Salesy Buzzwords

  1. <meta name="description" content="Top-rated, award-winning, best real estate agent ever delivering unmatched excellence and superior results every time.">

Why this is bad:

  • Sounds promotional, not helpful

  • Lacks location and services

  • Lower trust with users

✅ Good Meta Description Examples

Example 1: Clear & Local

  1. <meta name="description" content="Local real estate agent helping buyers and sellers in Orlando, FL with homes, condos, and relocations. Trusted local guidance.">

Why this works:

  • Includes city and state

  • Mentions core services

  • Reads naturally

Example 2: Buyer-Focused

  1. <meta name="description" content="Experienced real estate agent in Tampa, FL helping first-time buyers and sellers navigate the market with confidence.">

Why this works:

  • Addresses a specific audience

  • Clear role and location

  • Encourages clicks

Example 3: Niche Specialty

  1. <meta name="description" content="Atlanta real estate agent specializing in luxury homes, new construction, and seller representation. Personalized service.">

Why this works:

  • Highlights a specialty

  • Uses keywords naturally

  • Professional and concise

Example 4: Simple & Effective (Safe Default)

  1. <meta name="description" content="Local real estate agent helping buyers and sellers navigate the market with confidence. Personalized service and local expertise.">

Why this works:

  • Clean, flexible wording

  • Easy to customize

  • Works for most agents

Quick Rules Agents Should Follow

  • ✔ Write for humans, not search engines

  • ✔ Include location + service

  • ✔ Keep it under 160 characters

  • ❌ Do not repeat keywords

  • ❌ Do not use emojis or symbols

  • ❌ Do not write a biography
