Splitting Documents in Dotloop

Sometimes multiple documents are merged together and need to be separated so they can be placed in the correct placeholders. Follow the steps below to split documents and move them to their proper locations.


Splitting a Document

1. Open the Document

  1. Click on the document to open it.


Select Split Document

  • In the menu, click FileSplit Document.



Set the Split Pages

  • Determine how many documents are merged together.

  • Use the page numbers shown to identify where each document begins and ends.

  • Scroll through the document to confirm page breaks.

Label and Split

  • Assign page ranges to each split (e.g., “Contract: Pages 1–5,” “Disclosure: Pages 6–9”).

  • Click Split DocumentDone.




Check Your Folder

  • The newly separated documents will now appear individually in your folder.




Moving Documents to Placeholders

  1. Locate the document in your folder.

  2. Click and hold the file with your mouse.

  3. Drag and drop the file to the correct placeholder:

    • If the placeholder already has a document, you will see a Replace message.

    • Click Yes to replace the old version with the new one.

If You Cannot Split a Document

If the Split Document option is grayed out:

  1. Click Download to save the document to your computer.

  2. Re-add it to Dotloop:

    • Click Add Document.

    • Drag the file from your downloads or desktop back into the folder.

  3. Open the re-added document.

  4. Click FileSplit Document and follow the normal splitting steps above.
